Practicum in Sweden 2007

I arrived at the airport “Stockholm Airlanda” on 5th August at 9.30, where Roine Pettersson, the boss of the factory, was already waiting for me. After the greetings we drove to Enköping, which is situated in the west of Stockholm. When we arrived in the city, I checked in at the “First Hotel Park Astoria”, which was my home for the next four weeks.

At my first working day, Roine introduced me to some office-workers and he also gave me the necessary instructions for my work. GEA Exos Ventilation AB is a factory with about 60 workers, which is in the air-condition-branch. Furthermore it has sell-offices all over the country. At this day I also got a bicycle, which was my only means of transport. So I always rode with my “new” bike to my working place. In my first working week I usually was in the office, where I worked with the program “L-Plus”, a calculation program for the air-condition-apparatus. My instructions were to find the errors in the newest version.

On my first Friday I went out for the first time in Sweden and I learned very quickly how expensive this country is. On this evening I met my first Swedish friends and I always spent my free time with these people. On the next day we went to play mini-golf and in the evening we watched a movie in the local cinema. In Swedish cinemas the movies are in English with Swedish subtitles.

In my second working week, On Monday, in my second working week, I went with the service guy Hokan to Helsingborg, where we stayed until Tuesday to assemble a new ventilation system. The rest of the week we worked in Stockholm. Our work was usually to install air-condition-systems and to put them into operation.

At my second weekend I did the same free time activities like I do in Austria. So we, my Swedish friends and I, went to a HIPHOP-concert and on the following day we played football. In the evening of the second day of the weekend we went to a Swedish party.

In my third week in Sweden I also went with Hokan on montage. So we went from Enköping to Göteborg. After a hard working day we went to a “NRJ in the Park”, a concert, which is for Swedish new comer bands. The next few days we were in the south of Sweden, for example in Malmö. The last station of this week was Copenhagen, Denmark, where we worked on the roofs of the city.

In my last week in Sweden I installed the new GEA-products in the factory.

Actually the four weeks passed very quickly and so I flew back to Vienna on the 31st August, where I arrived at 22.30. Last but not least I lost some weight, because I missed the Austrian food.
