On Sunday, 3rd of August 2008, I started my Journey to Sønderborg in
Denmark. After my arrival at the airport in Munich, I took a flight to Hamburg.
The next step to my destination was a connecting train of the Danish federal
railroads to Flensburg where I had to change trains again before
I reached a small village located a few kilometres north of the German border.
Finally I travelled by bus for about one hour until I reached Soenderborg,
after a 12 hours journey.
Sønderborg, Denmark
Accommodations
My room in the dormitory was not really big but comfortably furnished, with
a private bathroom and an internet connection for my laptop. The dorm provided
a tennis and a football field, a music room, an internet cafe, television areas,
a fitness-room and much more. The food in the cantina was not bad, and at weekends
they offered a great lunch buffet.
A normal working day
Skolejem Dormitory in Soenderborg
On my first day in Denmark, Eva Sjöström picked me up at 9:00 o`clock
and we drove, after a short tour through Sønderborg, to the company where I
should work. But after a few hours at work, I got tired of carrying around heavy
lavatories. So I quit my job and enjoyed 6 days of vacation. After that
first week, I started working at JF STOLL, a company which produces mowers,
tedders, rakes, and other farming machines. I was working at a CNC-turning and
a CNC-milling machine. Work began at 6:30 am and ended at 5:30 pm.
Leisure activities
At weekends, I went sightseeing and visited some museums. Fortunately
my colleagues invited me to join them nearly every weekend. We went to a festival
at the harbour of Flensburg, a concert in Nordborg an much more.
Concluding I have to say that these weeks of internship in Denmark were a great
experience for me and I would like to thank Professor Gernot Weissensteiner for
arranging this foreign practical course and Frau Eva Sjöström for her
nice support in Denmark.
