Internship at the company RO-RA in Ireland
August 2008, by Peter Schobesberger
On July 31, 2008 I took a Ryanair flight to Ireland. Because I had a stay
of approximately 7 hours in Dublin, I was able to make a short trip into the
city
center. In the evening I was received in Kerry in a friendly way by Mr. Garry
Field.
On my first day in Ireland Mr. Field brought me to work, where I got a short
introduction and met the staff. After work we drove to the new house of his
brother-in-law, in which I was allowed to stay during my five weeks in Ireland,
when we arrived there they just were at cleaning and furnishing the house.
Tralee
Tralee, the capital city of
the county Kerry offers like, the whole county Kerry, a lot of sights and beautiful
places. Every time you walk through the city, you discover small shops, cosy pubs
or other objects of interest at each corner.
Kirby's Brogue Inn and Steakhouse
leisure
Whenever the weather was good I spent my spare time during the week in the
city or in the city park most of the time. Tralee is a city, in which you can
always discover new things and which also is not getting boring after 5 weeks.
For me Tralee was exactly the right city, there is everything a young person needs.
Apart from cinema, shopping centre, the Aquadome and many possibilities for going
out Tralee offers also a nice atmosphere and many places for relaxing.
Blennerville Windmill
On the weekends I spent most of the time in the region around Tralee like in Killarney or Dingle.
In Killarney there is a very invitational national park where you can see the well-known towerhouse
"Ross Castle", the fallen abbey "Muckross Abbey" and the manor house "Muckross House", where
Queen Victoria had resided, with its beautiful gardens.
Ross Castle
In the port Dingle you can find the large Oceanworld Aquarium,
an enormous corn labyrinth and the well-known dolphin Fungi.
Dingle
On the penultimate weekend a very special Event took place, weeks before
everybody had just been speaking about this big festival:
The Rose Of Tralee.
To this festival each year thousands of guests come to Tralee from all over the world.
Many Irish people say that this festival is only existing, for getting drunk a whole weekend long.
my practical course
At the beginning of the traineeship I got a explanation for the fundamental
operation with the injection moulding machines. I spent the largest part of the
practical course with serving of one of these machines. Occasionally there were
different plastic parts to sort or I had to punch out "Faltenbälge" (=bellows
in English).
RO-RA Ireland
result
Although the activities at the machines were often very monotonous,
the practical course was very interesting for me and above all new.
I was able to learn a lot about plastics processing and I have also
developed a certain interest for the therefor necessary manufacturing methods.
In addition the possibility of working in an Irish team gave me a lot of experience.
The detention in Ireland was a very nice time, Ireland was the ideal place
for
the foreign practical course. During my stay I could improve my English,
deepen my technical knowledge and become acquainted with many nice people.
In addition I was able to develop myself personally and had a view of the
life in another country and on its history.
I want to take this opportunity to thank Ing. Roland Lube and
DI Gernot Weissensteiner for the coordination of the practical course.
In addition I want to thank all the people who supported me at my practical course.
